Many causes: Black hairy tongue can be caused by: poor hygiene! smoking! pepto-bismo, some antibiotics, dry mouth, drinking lots of coffee or tea, hiv, IV drug use dehydration. Try cleaning your tongue with a tongue scraper or toothbrush.
