A member asked:

Is it wrong to ask what kind of leukemia if a child has it?

No: Leukemia simply means an elevated number of white blood cells in the peripheral blood, and says nothing about the prognosis or type of treatment recommended.

No, it is not: There are many types of leukemia and factors that have to be calculated in selecting treatment and discussing prognosis of the disease. It is not wrong to ask your doctor what type of leukemia that the child has so that you can discuss further re-tretament plan etc. Leukemia is only a general terminology for a cancer of the white blood cells-that is very serious and need to be treated right away.

Depends on context: If it is your own child, no.If you are just being nosy it is considered rude unless you are well within the inner circle of the family involved.
