Many causes: The primary job of the heart and cardiovascular system is to deliver oxygen to the body. A failure to adequately deliver oxygen to the body is one of the best definitions of heart failure. There are many causes of heart failure. Structural heart disease, congenital heart disease, damaged heart muscle due to a myriad of causes are all examples of problems that can cause heart failure.
