Depends: Sex can irritate existing hemorrhoids, but not cause hemorrhoids. Arousal causes increased blood flow in the genital/anal area. This increased blood flow in the anal area can cause hemorrhoids to flare up. Anal sex can definitely cause irritation of the anal area if there is not enough lubrication. Avoid anal sex when experiencing flare ups.
