A member asked:

Can a blood group a positive mother and a blood group b positive father give birth to an o positive child?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Blood types: Yes. Blood type is determined by the presence or absence of genes encoding the a or b protein on the red blood cell surface. It only takes one copy of the a or b gene to generate the respective protein. So if the mother was ao and the father was bo they would have a 25% chance of an oo child. If either parent had two copies of the gene an o type would be impossible.
