Variety of causes: Most patients with kidney stones have a metabolic abnormality which makes it more likely that their urine will form stones. The most common of these is excessive amounts of calcium in the urine which is frequently an inherited disorder. Since there are many additional possibilities, it is useful for folks with recurring stones to collect urine for one or even two days to uncover their abnormality.
