HICCUP (H) is-: Frequent involuntary contraction of diaphragm, mostly transient nuisance, benign, e.g. Too much alcohol, sedative use. Rx: simple distraction, breath holding etc. Persistent 'h' is from irritation of phrenic nerve/diaphragm eg. Tumor, pneumonia, ge reflux, esophagitis, surgical trauma. More serious: brain injury/tumor/ infection, uremia, etc. Treatment is as per cause. Needs medical attention.
