Less than 1%: A fever can be a manifestation of different types of transfusion reactions. The more common one occurs in less than 1% of transfusions, is accompanied by chills, headache or vomiting and is of little concern. However, fever can also occur with some much severe reactions so the hospital blood bank will always test the unit of blood and will not reissue it. Always stop the transfusion first.
