Which is comfortable: Apply that , most feel better with warm compress , most impotent be active , wear elastic stockings , elevate the legs while resting , doppler studies to rule out DVT , then is a different treatment.

Neither: Elevate your leg and it should decompress in less than a minute. If it does not, you may have superficial thrombophlebitis and may be able to feel a clot there. This can become red and painful. Treatment is compression stockings, Ibuprofen and warmth.

Compresses: I wouldn't recommend either as it may damage your skin You would be better served by using support or compression socks Also evaluation by a vascular surgeon will allow options for treatment to be discussed

VV treatment.: Neither hot nor cold compresses will help varicose veins. Varicose veins are due to malfunctioning valves of the saphenous system of veins. The gold standard for treatment is to have a venous ultrasound to make the diagnosis and aid in the formulation of a treatment plan. Support hose may help temporarily. See a vein specialist.
