Onion gas: There is no reason why a cut onion would be harmful. When you cut a bulb onion, it does release a gas (sulphenic acid), hence the tears. But this does not further harm. You want to refrigerate a cut onion, because it slows down the spoiling process. Perhaps the most convincing evidence i can give you is that I am alive to write this. I have been refrigerating cut onions forever, and am alive!

Have not heard that: One, onions have never caused a problem like that in my refrigerator other than causing an onion smell order, please consult with a food expert.
