Unlikely: Hives are very common occurring in about 25% of the population. Frequently a trigger is not found. The most common triggers of acute hives in young children is food allergy, insect bites, and viral infections. Drug allergic reactions can manifest as hives. Bacterial infections are a less common trigger. There are several very uncommon disorders where hives occur.
