Normal flora: We are all colonized with bacteria and fungi (we are buggy!). The organisms can be transmitted a via skin to skin contact. If your so had inflammation of the head of the penis (balnitis) this needs trestment; if he is uncircumcised he may well have a chronic asymptomatic low grade infection that needs treatment. You as we'll carry these organisms and may be translocating your own flora.

Many reasons: Theoretically, anything that alters the vaginal flora/ecosystem can predispose to it. An example would be taking antibiotics. Recent onset of douching is another one.

PH imbalances: Yeast or BV infections occur when the vaginal ph changes from it's normal slightly acidic range of 4-4.5. Antibiotics, stress, dietary changes, certain medications can disrupt this balance. This can allow the normal populations of yeast or gardnerella bacteria to overproliferate and cause yeast or bv. Some women have luck using nutritional supplements with acidophilus, probiotics, garlic.

Yeast infection: I recommend that you treat the yeast infection before you have any sexual encounter for a couple of reasons -- it can be very uncomfortable and can spread the infection to your partner. Over-the-counter Monistat is still a good first choice to treat vaginal yeast infection.

Standard therapy: While genital yeast infections are more common in women, men are able to get them as well; the same sort of topical therapy should work. If this is a recurrent problem, he should see his doctor for evaluation of an underlying immune system problem, such as HIV or a congenital issue. Good luck!

Well...: Hard to say. A common oral yeast infection is caused by candida albicans. This is an oppourtunistic fungal infection that is commonly referred to as "thrush". Candida is normally present in the mouth but may proliferate into an "infection" or overgrowth causing symptoms in the mouth. Overgrowth can be caused by immunosuppression, prolonged denture use, stress, or even side effects of medications.
