i have a small flaky red round rash on my left breast. ive put zinc cream, and hydrocortisone on it, but it doesnt seem to get any better. i was thinking it was contact dermatitis or breast eczema. it wouldnt be cancer could it??

does desitin (zinc oxide diaper cream) help an eczema rash?

No.: For eczema you will generally require a topical steroid.  The required potency of the steroid will depend upon how inflammed the lesion appears to be, how long it has been present and the location. Triamcinolone is often a good choice.

my baby had something like eczema/rash & reddish kinda blisters on her vagina so i stopped using bum cream & used zinc & castor oil so it went away now it's back again what could it be? i'm using fragranced j&j wipes could that be the reason?

Evaluation: Please see your pediatrician. She may have Strep or Staph infection of the skin and requires treatment. Discontinue wipes, oil and use a thin layer of an antibiotic cream three times daily, until evaluated.

Probably OK: If you have no lip, mouth, throat or stomach problems then it's probably OK.

Accepted Answer

Zinc pyrithione: is a zinc complex that inhibits both fungal and bacterial growth. It is principally used as an ingredient in anti-dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis preparations. I don't think it would be of particular help in sunburn...in fact, it is possible it might aggravate an already inflamed skin. I wouldn't use it as a treatment for sun burn. Stay well:)

Depends on type: There are many soaps and there are many products that have zinc pyrithione in them.  You have to read the labels for the zinc product you are using to see what should or should not be used with it.  Contact the manufacturer of the product, or read about it online. Then check the type of soap you are using to be sure it has no warnings.  Talk to your pharmacist and doc about what you can use safely

Enjoy your swim: It won't be a problem. There is also a LOT you can use for seborrheic dermatitis beside pyrethone zinc. Old-fashioned sulfer, old-fashioned coal tar, ketoconazole shampoo, and many others are available. The pool water may actually be of some mild benefit.

scalp itch, boils for past 5 yrs. doc advised pyrithione zinc shampoo. fine for half a day after shampooing. scalp itch returns after that. diff diag?

Scalp Itch: Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory disorder affecting areas of the head and trunk where sebaceous glands are most prominent. Lipophilic yeasts of the Malassezia genus, as well as genetic, environmental and general health factors, contribute to this disorder. You can try prescription Clobetasol Lotion twice a day for itching of the scalp.

No: None of the above. Also note that plain benzoyl peroxide will probably have the same benefit at a fraction of the price.
