i am 39 weeks pregnant, 35, and am taking a stool softener prescription from midwife. it is not working. i am literally having to manually evacuate my bowels with gloved hand, when i do this, it is hard to the touch, dry, and bloody?

: You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods. Consult this site for fiber foods.

Nail problem: You need to schedule an appointment with her pediatrician to rule out other nail conditions aside from the common fungal infection. She will need a script for oral medications. Topicals will do no good.

See a dermatologist: A couple of possibilities. A fungal or bacterial infection of the nail can cause discoloration and nail shedding. Pseudomonas nail infection gives a green-gray nail discoloration which can get loose and possibly fall. Also blood collections (subungual hematoma) can do the same, usually from trauma. This needs an evaluation and some lab tests and cultures. Please see your dermatologist right away.

Trauma: A black toenail that was bruised and now is dark from dry blood will grow back. You can carefully cut away the potion of the nail that is loose and cover loosely with dr schools foam to protect area until new nail starts to grow. Rarely if the base itself is black back to the area around the base there could be growth underneath nail which needs to be seen and possibly biopsied.

Trauma: If you're lucky enough to still have some living matrix at the end of the finger, and most times this occurs you definitely are that lucky, the nail should grow back in a matter of many months. It just takes a long time because that nail, once established, only grows 2 mm a month on the fingers and 1 mm a month on the toes.

Nailbed trauma: Following crushing or pinching injuries to the fingertips, the nails will often fall off after a couple of weeks.  If this becomes a recurrent problem without history of trauma, and especially if associated with hair loss, request an evaluation with your doctor or a dermatologist.

Peeling nails : Didn't get exactly what's happening? Are the nails coming out wholesome? Or just the outer layer or edges? You need a dermatologist help, kindly start with the primary doctor for initial evaluation, wish you and your son wellness

Don't know: Anonychia (Absence of nails) can be due to a number of causes such as:  Anonychia congenita, Ectodermal defect Ichthyosis Allergic contact dermatitis Raynaud's phenomenon Trauma Lichen planus Exfoliative dermatitis &amp; Epidermolysis bullosa.
 Recommend dermatological evaluation.

See below: If the nail is falling off do to injury, you are better off letting come off on it's own. There is probably new nail already growing under it.
