Doubt it: Orthostasis has multiple causes. I could not find a specific genetic  component. If you know what's causing yours may be there is some genetic or hereditary trait like in diabetes autonomic neuropathy, may be in  lewy body dementia, or shy drager syndrome. Most orthostasis occurs in elderly and pts with anihypertensives or antidepressants.

Low blood pressure: Postural hypotension describes a phenomenon that  occurs in some people -- usually otherwise healthy -- in which after they rise from either a prone, or sitting, position their blood pressure quickly becomes lower.  As a consequence, the affected person becomes uncomfortably dizzy, or lightheaded for a short time period.

Semantics: They mean the same thing. Postural hypotension theoretically could mean any change in posture that induces low blood pressure, but in reality this is only seen when assuming a standing-up position from seated or lying down. Orthostatic hypotension describes the same phenomenon.

Depends on cause: This can be due to meds, nervous system disease, heart disease, dehydration, aging, or other.  Treatment for each of these can be different.  Postural hypotension occuring after eating can be avoided by eating small meals low in carbohydrates.  For all causes, stand up slowly rather than quickly to allow the body to adjust.  Fludrocortisone can be used in some cases. Please check with your doctor.

To help improve that your physician could change the time or type of blood pressure, use compression hoses to help keep the circulation up when you stand or add other medication to maintain blood pressure. Dizziness: Postural hypotension means low blood pressure when changing position, such as going from lying down to sitting or standing.  It can cause feelings of dizziness or light-headedness, or can cause the person to pass out/lose conciousness. If that occurs, the person can fall and hurt themselves.

That depends: Almost anyone can get a drop in blood pressure when standing up suddenly if he or she is dehydrated at the time (for example, if it's a warm day and you've forgotten to take in enough fluids) or has had alcohol or a medication that opens up blood vessels (some blood pressure meds).  Less frequently, it can be caused by an abnormal response by your nervous system to the change in posture.

Family practice : Exactly. Your blood pressure will drop and heart rate will increase when you stand up suddenly. That is the definition of postural hypotension. Dehydration , anemia, and certain medications can cause it.

Hydrate !: Hydrate yourself if your thirsty. May need support stockings either knee or thigh length .Let your md adjust or change medications!
