i have been on warfarin since 2006. recently i've had inr results above 8.0 more than once. i've not changed my diet or dosage . i've always been therapeutic on current dosage until recently. what can the causes be for such elevated results ?

: There are many factors that can affect the Warfarin level. It could be that your body is simply metabolizing the medicine differently and so your level went up. The dose will need to be adjusted once your INR is where it should be. Follow up with your doctor for instructions and for dose adjustment. Good luck to you!

INR =: INR = International Normalized Ratio. it is a mathematical ratio that  normalizes the Protime test to a standard so that different test results performed at different times or places can be compared in a standardized way.

Do this:: Try to eat a relatively monotonous diet - especially about the same amount of greens every day. Inform your doctor of any medicine changes (started or stopped) including over the counter meds and herbal preps. Get your value checked often, at least once a week until your INR is remaining between 2.5 and 3.5 several times in a row. Put your meds in a weekly dispenser to confirm you took it daily.

Warfarin: New medication, diet, different generic rx and then we don't know, i often prescribe brand name Coumadin (warfarin) as there is less variation than generic rx and little room for error.

The yogurt?: If you mean the yougurt drink with fruit, I think that depends on the fruit. If it is a plain yogurt drink there shouldn't be a significant issue. The big issue with coumadin is how much vitimain K is present in the food, or that can be converted by the gut flora into vitamin K.
