Many reasons: All it takes is 1 period for regular cycle to change to irregular cycle. You nee your Thyroid checked out.

Possibly: Missing  a period is certainly a sign of being pregnant. Most often though women experience other signs of pregnancy like breast tenderness or morning sickness. If you did a home pregnancy test now, it would tell you if you are pregnant or not. If so, see a doctor ASAP to have a transvaginal ultrasound done. You can then still decide how to go about the pregnancy.

Irregular periods: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections ;  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

Pregnancy?'s: Delayed ovulation will delay onset of a period, and if ovulation occurred during the time of "unprotected sex" it is possible for pregnancy.  Wait another week and obtain a serum HCG test, and if negative, see your gyn physician for further testing.

Hormonal imbalance: If you did the test correctly, it is unlikely that you are pregnant. Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.

If not pregnant, other causes of a late or missed period include:  excessive weight loss or weight gain, increased exercising, emotional stress, having an illness, traveling, medicines (especially birth control pills), hormonal disorders, etc…  a visit to one’s ob-gyn doctor is a good idea if symptoms are persistent, recurring, or worrisome.
