Depends on the light: Because the floater is semi-transparent, certain lighting conditions and backgrounds will back the floater more visible.  They are always there, just may not be visible under the wrong light.

Depends: Floaters are common, especially beginning in the middle years.  If you have associated with them a recent history of trauma, or if you see light flashes or changes in the overall vision, then see your ophthalmologist right away.   If one or two floaters is all you see, then you can schedule a routine exam but get in quickly if one of the above issues arises.

Not genetic: Floaters most commonly arise from aging changes in the fluids in the back of the eyes.  These are individualized and do not run in families.  If significant or accompanied by light flashing or a drop in vision, you should see your ophthalmologist as soon as you can.

Maybe: Floaters are common and usually of no concern.  However you should have a dilated retinal exam to be sure.  Occasionally floaters are sign of retinal disease, retinal tears or retinal detachment.

Symptoms unrelated: The combination of headaches and floaters are coincidence and not related. Floaters are generally benign and common. The worrisome thing would be to have a "shower" of new floaters, especially if they are associated with flashing lights as this may represent a retinal tear. Those symptoms or a "curtain" coming down over the vision should lead to a prompt visit to an eye specialist.

No: Floaters in the vitreous cavity of the eye, although at times annoying, are degenerative changes in the vitreous humor where the collagenous skeleton breaks down and begins to float around in the liquefied gel. These spots(fibrillar, and veil-like) cast shadows on the retina as you move your eye. No treatment exists except when floaters arise from intraocular diseases that require a vitrectomy.
