Bowel prep : Bowel preparation for colonoscopy usually involves a liquid diet the day before. Call the doctors office that is doing the colonoscopy to find out about what you can and cannot drink. They will set you right. Hope this helps!

Tums ok  but no food: The point of the scope is to identify tiny polyps that could eventually turn into cancer. If you eat food you may have stool in your colon and the scope will be worthless.

37yrold.i have constant gas & indigestion since 10 yrs.i have low stomach acid as well and heartburn sometimes.these days even drinking water is causing gas. what could be the issue.i cant eat much protein as well.endoscopy&colonoscopy are normal?

Nothing to gassy: Since most people are a little bloated after a colonoscopy, i tend to recommend foods that are not too gassy right after a colonoscopy. Otherwise, eat whatever you want. You just went through a tough ordeal so you deserve a treat!

Yes, if...: If a person enjoyed tofu without problems in the past, then she can have tofu the day before her colonoscopy... As long as she drinks the prep drink and clears everything out of her bowels the day prior to her procedure.

Accepted Answer

No: No, when they tell you nothing by mouth for your procedure, they mean nothing.  If you expect to get sedation for your procedure then your stomach needs to be as empty as possible.  Otherwise there is a risk of vomiting and aspirating which can be serious, even fatal.  So NO!  no Laffy Taffy or anything else.  Weren't you given explicit pre procedure instructions?

Within an hour: Usually you can have fluids in recovery and should be able to eat  abreakfast within 2 to 3 hours. This depends on how you feel and if you have any nausea afterward. It would wise to start slowly and avoid greasy and acidic foods initially (eg, bacon sausage, orange juice). Toast, cereal, coffee/tea should be safe. Later in the day you may resume your regular diet.

No restrictions: Once your colonoscopy is completed, you should be allowed to resume a normal diet as soon as you are awake.

No: No- for 2 reasons-1/ it can make visualization more difficult, 2/ you will be sedated, and do not want to run the risk of aspirating food into your lungs.

Follow the instructi: Your doctor's office should give you instructions to follow in order to have a good prep. Otherwise your test will be cancelled as the preparation is rigorous and lasts 2-3 days of no solids and using laxatives to clean up your intestines completely.
