i have gilbert's syndrome, what can i  do besides drinking water to keep the whites of my eyes white and not yellow?

Reduce stress: Gilbert’s syndrome is due to deficiency of an enzyme that helps to excrete bilirubin. It is usually diagnosed between the ages of 15 and 30 years. Patients with Gilbert’s syndrome are prone to develop jaundice (yellow) from time to time. The risk increases with fasting, dehydration, repeated and profuse vomiting, infections, exertion and stress and after a surgery. It is not dangerous, so relax.

Other causes: Are others smoking marijuana around you? If so, it could be the effects of second hand smoke. Do you wear contact lenses?  There are many causes of conjunctival injection or "pink eye."  the most common is allergy. If you are having excessive tearing or irritation of the eyes, you should see your physician, and perhaps get a referral to an eye specialist.

Eye Disease?: It is not natural for the 'whites' of our eyes to be truly pure white.The white covering, or conjunctiva has many blood vessels within it.
Many eye conditions may contribute to irritation of the eyes and increased redness!

Why would you?: If you have an occasional redness you can use over the counter vasoconstrictors with or without antihistamine.  But maximum use is once or twice a day.  Using them more often causes a rebound vasculitis, a redness that is hard to treat.  If you have chronic red eyes you should see an ophthalmologist for proper diagnosis.

You may have a genetic problem that is also related to other connective tissue diseases like the bone, or rheumatologic disease like rhematoid arthritis or have developed this as a result of injury/infection.  The sclera can appear blue when it gets thinner & needs to be evaluated by an eye md (ophthalmologist) asap.
