Yes: While there are 2 forms of herpes commonly transmitted, an oral and genital version, these will generally only infect the area contacted. Much of the population already has one form of herpes. If you do get symptoms, they will likely be at the mouth.

Many problems: Besides HSV, you can get HIV, Hep B, Hep C, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and many other problems/ concerns.

YES: You should BOTH be tested for HSVs- there is an asymptomatic carrier state which can cause infection.

: Either oral or genital herpes (HSV) is very contagious, and can be passed between sexual partners.  There can be long intervals between symptoms (painful ulcers, either orally or genital) which are usually activated by stressful incidents.

i have a herpes outbreak and im currently in my 1st semester. i have had herpes for over 20 years now and havent really taken any antiviral pills. i just cure it with an itch cream is this bad. should i get an antiviral prescription??

Herpes : Oral antiviral herpes medication can be prescribed by your doctor to help you with the outbreak. Antifungal cream will not help a herpes outbreak.  It is not harmful but it wont help. Fungal medication will not treat a virus.

i awoke one night to my dog licking the inside of my vagina. now several weeks later have an infection looking urethra and have been cultured for the common stds and all are negative. my urologist thinks its herpes. can i get something from my dog?

: A dogs' mouth has less germs in it than most other animals, including humans. I doubt they would give you herpes, that is a human-to-human contact disease. I would not blame the dog but move on to consider other possibilities.

Herpes: If you have been diagnosed with herpes then there is a good chance you will get recurrent lesions. There are antiviral medications that you can take to suppress the number of episodes.
