Your OB/GYN: Nuchal translucency screening is a part of first trimester screening or the first screen. It is an ultrasound of the skin on the neck of the fetus.  How thick this skin is can help us determine the risk that a particular baby has for having chromosome abnormalities like down syndrome.  Your OB or midwife will be able to tell you who in your area is qualified to do this test.

Down screening: Nuchal translucency is measuring the thickness of the baby's neck on an ultrasound in the first trimester. This measurement, along with some bloodwork from the Mom, is a screening test for Down syndrome in the baby. It detects pregnancies that are at increased risk. The only way to know for sure is to do genetic tests on the baby's cells. This can be done with CVS or amniocentesis.

Nuchal translucency ; nuchal thickness are usually measured the first ; second trimesters. I thought fetal head ; neck position could alter NT measurement in 3rd trimester, so i&#x27;ll ask for help on that one.

Ultrasound: Nuchal translucency (nt) is typically measured between weeks 11 and 14.  The sonographer measures the thickness of the tissues of the back of the fetal neck.  After the image is magnified, calipers are placed along the inner margin of the tissues of the neck.
