Bleeding: Vitamin k is a cofactor in humans' ability to clot. When we don't have enough we have the potential to have severe bleeding. That is why brand new babies receive a dose of vitamin k. 
Humans get most of their vitamin k from bacteria in their intestines although it also comes from some foods.

Depends: Vitamin d intake depends on your blood level. Some people need more than others;  their body breaks it down faster. It will not have any effect on bruising. Vitamin k is in leafy green vegetables which you should be eating daily. Vitamin k is also in many multivitamins. Vitamin k deficiency is very rare unless you have unusual medical problems so look for other causes of bruising. See your doctor.

my doctor ordered a pt test, cbc test, and metabolic test. i have discoloration and bruising around my eyes. i eat huge amount of spinach, and foods high in folate, iron and vitamin k. should i stop eating those foods for a few days before the tests?

Check with PCP: If you have nasal congestion or inflammation, this may result in discoloration around the eyes as well. If there was no mention of changing your diet, it should be fine.

Yes, you may: As long as you are not on Coumadin or warfarin, vitamin k is fine to take with metformin.

INR: If you had an inr of 2.6 and were coincidently taking vitamin k, then stopping the k and maintaining the dose of warfarin would very likely cause the inr to go that high.

why do doctors give injections of vitamin k when patients are taking warfrin?

Accepted Answer

For toxicity: If warfarin is well controlled and INR levels are therapeutic (2-3.5, depending on the disease being treated), Vitamin K is NOT needed. It is only used when the effect of the warfarin needs to be reversed FAST as the patient is bleeding or about to bleed.
That is why monitoring levels is so important.
