Would not know: Ovulation on the pill is extremely rare when taken at the same time each day religiously.

if you did ovulate while on the pill by some chance, how would you know your fertile days? based on how long your cycle is?

Accepted Answer

Count the days: Women ovulate 14 days after the first day of your cycle.  Assuming you are regular and not taking bcp's. If you are on a bcp and miss a couple of days then there is no way of predicting exactly when you will ovulate.

does depo-provera permanently reduce fertility? i would like kids in the next 5 years but not now (college). should i just get on the pill?

Depo effects: can last between 3 to 12 months after stopping the injections. As long as you don't have a SPECIFIC date that you want to get pregnant, Depo is a safe and effective method of birth control. You just have to wait for the hormone to clear before normal fertility returns.

No: The pill doesn't cause fertility problems by itself, and you can start ovulating (releasing an egg) again within weeks of stopping it. If a woman is given the pill for irregular cycles or polycystic ovarian syndrome (pcos), when she stops the pill the pcos or other cause of irregular cycles still remains and may affect fertility. The pill doesn't prevent stds like chlamydia which can block tubes.

Other causes: If pregnancy test is negative and you've had normal regular periods until now, i'd look for another cause of the big belly. It may be an intestinal/bladder or another problem.

does trinessa (norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol) stop ovulation? does having sex while on the pill count as unprotected sex, especially during part of the month you would be ovulating?

Almost always: Nothing is fool proof including birth control pills to stop ovulation. Technically unprotected sex while on the pill is protected, but not from the transmission of sexually transmitted infections.

Some thoughts...: Pregnancy is the most common cause of a missed period. If not pregnant, other causes of a late or missed period include:  excessive weight loss or weight gain, increased exercising, emotional stress, having an illness, traveling, medicines (especially hormone or birth control pills), hormonal disorders, etc…  A visit to one’s Ob-Gyn doctor is a good idea if symptoms are persistent or worrisome.

NO.: Oral contraceptives are not painful to take, nor do they have painful consequences. Expect 8% risk of pregnancy each year of use, even with optimal use.

Nothing much: Usually nothing negative happens if you stop, but
1-you could get pregnant
2-your period may not come for a while
3-if you had cramps before the pill, they may return
4-if your periods were very heavy before the pill, they may become so again.
