Post-op advice...: Follow the post-op advice that your surgeon almost certainly gave you after your surgery in regards to when it is safe to return to work/resume normal activities. It would be unwise for a physician not involved in your surgery and care to give advice to the contrary of that which was given by a physician who knows exactly what surgery, any complications, and your full history.

Depends: That largely depends on your recovery time. You are young so if you are otherwise healthy and surgery goes well it's possible you could be released quickly. Your surgeon is really the only one who can beat predict your length of stay.

3-4 days: Depending on the patient general condition and if the patient any other problem complicating his fracture.

Ask your doctor: These are excellent questions for your surgeon. Most of the time, these are done as out patients. However, there are exceptions based on the extent of the surgery and any underlying medical conditions you may have.

5 days ago i had neck surgery. fusion of the c4, c5 & c6. since leaving the hospital i've had a significant weight gain, 10 lbs. i also feel and appear very bloated, almost pregnant. is this normal and when will i loose this?

Although : Although you do not provide information as to your overall health and other conditions you may have, it sounds as if you are experiencing post-operative ileus following the spine surgery.  Ileus is a fairly common problem after surgery caused by slowed peristalsis/decreased GI motility from activation of inhibitory reflexes, release of inflammatory mediators, decreased mobility, decreased fluid intake, and particularly worsened by narcotic (opioid) use for pain control.  Symptoms of ileus include abdominal distention, pain, bloating, cessation of bowel movements, absence of flatus, nausea, vomiting.  This can be confirmed by examination and/or a flat plate x-ray of the abdomen.

The treatment of ileus is increasing mobility (i.e. Walking), decreasing narcotic use, use of suppositories to stimulate bowel movements.  On occasion, a patient may need to have a tube placed into the stomach to decompressed the distended bowel and kept on IV fluids until the ileus resolves.

could jaw surgery make my neck look longer?

No vertical length: When you get a jaw surgery that advances the lower jaw forward, it can make the "chin to throat distance" longer and enhance the appearance of a tight neck, long jaw line, and the youthful look.  This may also give the appearance of a longer neck, but this does not make the neck vertically longer.  That would require making you taller in the cervical spine and i'm not aware of such a surgery.

are results from a neck lift permanent? i am 55 and have a "turkey wattle" that i would like to have corrected. how long do the results of the surgery typically last? do some neck lift procedures last longer than others?

The : The results from a face/neck lift are "permanent" in the sense that the skin is always tighter than it would have been had you not had the surgery.  However, skin will relax over time and eventually might benefit from a second face/neck lift.  On average, most patients who have a second lift do so perhaps 10-14 years later, but this depends on how your skin ages.

Depends: Whether the bowel was infarcted and they had to resect  (3-4 days) or simply reduced bowel (1-2 days)

Usually: A few hours as an outpatient procedure. Ask your doctor about your surgical plans.

Sounds ok.: If your doctor told your husband that everything went great, that usually means the surgery went as expected.  Hope that you feel better soon.
