The flu is contagious in the air - other friends/family sick? Food poisoning is clustered around a meal - other people who ate what you ate sick? Food poisoning usually passes in 24-48 hours. Flu may last a week.

Germs require time: Sevreal variables can delay the onset of symptoms in food poisoning.The amount of germs ingested may vary & stomach acid may destroy them before they can get thru. The host body may also be tolerate the toxin up to a point.Any left over germs require time to make enough toxin in the gut to trigger symptoms.Occasionally the germs have made enough toxin before intake that symptoms come sooner.

Most likely it isn't: Food poisoning. Rather i suspect she caught a stomach virus & started having symptoms when you had dinner. Hopefully you practice good handwashing & didn't do anything to acquire it (although individual immunity to viruses can vary).

Sure. U can try this: If no improvement  or you have diarrhea, fever and or severe abdominal pain, then you will need to be seen to R/o E.coli infection. If your symptoms get better with zofran, (ondansetron) but have recurrent attacks with greasy meals, then you need to have work up done to R/ o gall bladder disease. Will need gall bladder US and or HIDA scan with CCK.

See Doctor: Gi symptoms present for so many days  require md visit to examine and decide treatment  hand washing  usually prevents spreading  infections to other people. Extreme care in hand washing especially preparing food for others  is essential.

: Food poisoning doesn’t usually last more than a week. There’s also a viral illness, called Norwalk agent that causes vomiting and nausea. A common cause of nausea in a woman can be pregnancy. In general, it was recommended to do a home pregnancy test.
