Yes: After partial removal, the remaining thyroid will grow. If this thyroid remnant is healthy, it can easily make enough thyroid hormone to keep your blood levels normal, but on exam it may be enlarged.  If the original surgery was for a "nodule", then this enlarging thyroid remnant can create concern/confusion: is it normal physiologic expansion, or another nodule? Check with your endocrinologist.

Hypothyroidism: If the whole thyroid gland is removed, then the person need to take thyroid hormone to replace the thyroid function. Thyroid hormone is effective and very safe. Rarely, the operation can damage the nerve that controls the vocal cord. The parathyroid glands scan be damaged and cause a low blood calcium. This can be corrected with oral calcium. These are complications rather than side effects.

Thyroid: You don't normally remove the thyroid if it is underactive, you replace it with thyroxine, not sure what is your thyroid problem, and what are your side effects, but you need to discuss them with your doctor. An endocrinologist will be best equipped to treat your condition.

Hypothyroid ?: The master gland can influence metabolism, mood and other systems. Wise to have a full physical-do request thyroid function studies. Prior to the physical one is wise to keep a daily diary of mood/ weight/ daily activities including all meal+ choices to gain insight into the mystery of the scale.

Unlikely but...: This is complicated! Even mild hypothyroidism can have permanent effects on a child's growth &amp; development, but it's not likely to affect the function of other endocrine glands.  However, hypothyroidism MAY be accompanied by dysfunction of other glands (multiple endocrinopathy) or it may be caused by dysfunction of the pituitary gland.  I assume your doctors have checked for these other problems.
