what is the difference between double cardiac catheterization and cardiac catheterization?

Unknown: I have been performing cardiac catheterizations  since my fellowship in 1990-1993 and I have never heard of a 'double' cardiac catheterization. It is possible to perform angiograms of other parts of the anatomy during a cardiac catheterizaiton but you only have one heart. However the cardiologist can perform a right and left heart catheterization instead of just a left heart which is more common.

Part of same: Ivus (intravascular ultrasound) is a diagnostic tool that can be used during cardiac catheterization when the angiographic pictures are not sufficient to determine the severity of a blockage. Ivus can be considered part of cardiac catheterization in a subset of patients who require it.

No: A common coronary catheterization is an invasive procedure that requires  insertion of catheters inside the arteries and injection of "dye" to highligth the arteries of the heart. A ct coronary angiography is new method to take a look at the coronary arteries without insertion of catheters. Please note that there different indication, and in some cases the invasive procedure is needed.

Right and left sided: It depends on the context, but to me this sounds like doing both a left heart catheterization and a right heart catheterization. A left heart cath is for checking the arteries in the heart and also the pressure in the left ventricle. A right heart cath is for checking the pressures on the right side of the heart, the left atrium (indirectly) and for measuring cardiac output.

Based on the information obtained, a treatment plan is developed.

Somewhat: Intrusive?  Well it usually involves putting a large bore needle into your femoral artery - however if you can benefit from it (because you can stent arteries open during the same procedure) it is less intrusive than open heart surgery but more intrusive than having a stress test or doing nothing (and maybe dying at home).
