From brain injury: This is a kind of noncardiac pulmonary edema. Its seen with a variety of acute brain injuries like head injury and large strokes especially hemorrhages. The edema is related to leaky capillaries. The exact mechanism is unknown but one theory is the brain injury causes a sudden release of stress hormones ( like adrenaline) that injures the capillaries and allows them to leak fluid into the lung.

Individualized: There are different types of neurogenic bladder. Common causes might be multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury or stroke. In general, the bladder's function is to store and void urine, both of which can be disrupted. Goals of treatment should be to allow low pressure storage of urine and adequate emptying at a convenient time. Self catherization and medication are often used to accomplish this.

Find a way: Embarrassment is painful and often not necessary. Mostly people don't know how many others are in the same situation or even worse. Medical pros are so accustomed to dealing with problems that they almost never are judgemental or shocked. Especially if this can be corrected, it makes sense to just dive in and do it. Otherwise considered not curable and treated by intermittent catheterization, artificial urinary sphincter implant etc.
