Normal progression: The needs for eyeglasses including myopia and astigmatism can show up in the low to mid 20s.  This is not pathology but a normal progression.  When it starts this late it is almost always minor.

Unknown: First of all, there are 2 different kinds of lattice degeneration. Corneal lattice is an inherited and genetic disease of the cornea. Lattice degen of the retina is found in 1/3 of myopic patients and is caused by inadequately developed patches of the retina.

Genetics: Myopia, or nearsightedness, means one can see near objects but distance vision is blurry.
Myopia is usually genetic and there is no known reason.  It could be caused by a longer than normal eye or a steeper cornea.

Increasing problem: Myopia has become more common in recent years for no known reason.  Speculation includes dietary, use of reading, low light levels, absense of sunlight  but no real answers yet.  Correction is by glasses, contacts or laser refractive surgery.

Not unusual: Myopia and astigmatism can progress through the mid 20s in some cases - not usually to much of a degree.  You might have had a good tolerance of blur prior to age 20 and only now are concerned about the blur.  These are usually intrinsic - there is no "cause".

Eye Dr. can evaluate: People may not blink enough when working with computers or reading books, allowing the corneas to become drier and mildly blur the vision. A diabetic with fluctuating blood sugars can get temporary vision changes. Someone with cataracts can get vision changes as his pupils dilate or constrict in different lighting brightness, depending on where the cataracts are. It could also just be presbyopia.
