Yes it could.: Heart palpitations are not always dangerous, but they should always be evaluated.  I recommend seeing a Dr to get a detailed history and hopefully identify WHY you are getting palpitations,(caffeine, alcohol, thyroid etc) then a physical and EKG, possibly blood tests just to make sure it is not something serious. Never ignore your heart! ❤️

Hard to speculate: Whether or not you should limit your exercise is best determined by those who have access to your full history, exam and any testing done. Everyone is able to be aware of their heartbeat on occasion and a vague statement about heredity is not specific enough to say one way or another.

Not known: Most of the time we don't find a specific reason for the heart to be beating irregularly which i assume is the reason for your palpitations. Things such as an overactive thyroid, caffeine, anxiety, disease of the heart valves, and coronary artery disease are associated with an increased incidence of palpitations but once again most of the time we don't find a specific cause.

Eating cooked onions should be fine, just like eating other cooked vegetables. Theoretically, getting hit in the heart by a big yellow onion flying at high speed can cause a problem, similar getting hit by a baseball, so don't throw onions.
