?word use: Apraxia: involves loss of use.  Here i assume you mean a child who is delayed? There are standards of nl development for a childs age , out side of which your health care provider will want to seek additional work ups for possible causes.

Apraxia: Apraxia is a brain/nervous system disorder that makes a person unable to do tasks or movements when asked - even though they can understand the request and want to do them.  Their muscles function, and they may even have learned to do the task before.  Possible causes include stroke, brain tumor, dementia, neurodegenerative condition, and traumatic brain injury.

Speech disorder: This means the child has trouble making the correct sounds and movements of the mouth during speech.  Intensive speech therapy is very helpful, but checking for an underlying CAUSE is worthwhile.  For example, a hearing problem is a treatable cause.  There are other causes, and a pediatric neurologist may be a good option to help figure it out!  See your pediatrician.
