Normal vs average?: 120/80 has been the "textbook" answer for many years for your question and which doctors get asked every day.  However, the realistic answer in my opinion is that there is a wide range: for a petit female, a blood pressure of 90/50 is normal, whereas for a big football player, 140/90 may be normal and even then there's room for debate.  Ask your family doctor what's appropriate and healthy for you.

Blood pressure : Blood pressure normals are a range and fairly wide on the low side. Anything over 140/90 we consider high, on the low side if you feel well, even 80/50 would be ok.

Important question: 90/60 would be the normal. I have seen many childen with a blood pressure of e.g. 110/0. It is the difference between the two pressures (pulse pressure) that is important in kids and few pediatricians measure blood pressure.It gives a lot of information about the autonomic nervous system that is so easily affected by the usual "junk" that is is considered to be their birthright.

Blood pressure: The upper number of 147 is a little on the high side, but not terribly so.  The fact that the numbers are odd numbers suggests to me that the pressure was measured with an automatic cuff.  Manual BP readings are more accurate, and in any event one should not decide too much on the basis of a single reading.  Multiple readings taken over time are more useful.

Normal For You: An "average" blood pressure is 120/80 which means 120 mm mercury systolic (full heart pump) and 80 mm mercury diastolic (heart at rest between beats).  Many other factors enter into the number which makes it higher or lower, but normal for you.  Example:  athletes BP is usually lower, the elderly have higher bp's but both are prefectly fine.  Find what is normal for you.  Extremes are bad.

Usually no reason: Most people who check their blood pressure readings don't get the same reading on repeated measurements. Humans are not identical from moment to moment (we're not robots). A person who finds variety in her measurements can just take 2 measurements every time and average them. She can show the numbers to her primary care doctor for advice. A person in her 20's should have nice, low pressures.
