Many poss: Thrombosis or clotted vein( mondors dis), infection, contusion, blocked duct, muscle spasm, pathological rib fracture, getting pinched, etc.

Usually hormonal: Most of the time it results from the breast tissue change in hormonal care.  Generally it is on both sides.  If so it isn't anything to worry about.  Sometimes cysts that enlarge just before a period also can be sore and improve after the period.  After menopause pain is less common.  If you have redness or a lump, or pain only on one side that persists, it would be good to have it looked into.

If they do the you probably have a thoracic nerve compression coming from your upper back.

Pain: This can't be diagnosed with the information that is available. A history, physical examination &amp; other studies may be needed to determine cause/causes.

Possibly: It's possible.  Depends on your age, how long you've been on the pill.  Questions to consider: is the pain cyclical?; is the pain bilateral or unilateral?; is the an associated lump?, is there nipple discharge?

Breast radiation?: If it was radiation to the breast itself, then adhesions can occur where the inside breast tissue sticks to other tissue causing pain and reduced breast mobility.  Usually, this is relieved by breast massage to break up the adhesive areas, manually Check with your radiation oncologist if this is the case for a "2nd opinion"

See below: Muscular/skeletal (chest wall pain), monthly cycling of hormones causing breast swelling - cyclic mastalgia or fibrocystic breast changes, lung issues (pneumonia, pleuritic, bronchitis), gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn), mastitis, large pendulous breasts causing stretching of cooper's ligaments, hidradenitis suppurativa, spinal or para spinal disorders.  Get checked by your physician.

Multiple things: A portion of the lung, the pancreas, the small and large bowel are all located deep to the ribs on the left side.  If you are having trouble, consider being seen.

Accepted Answer

No: The most likely cause of musculoskeletal pain is not cancer.  I see cancer patients, so I am always thinking about cancer, but primary care physicians see patients with these symptoms all the time. If they resolve they are likely musculoskeletal problems (arthritis, etc) but could be viral, etc. If worsening or not resolving then more concerning. See physician for follow up.
