Poor protection: The protection created by series vaccines like Gardasil are tested & confirmed to provide a satisfactory level of protection for many years only when the series is completed . Failure to complete the series will result in some who are not protected or whose protection disappears over time. The series can be resumed with an extended delay & still yield benefits.

You : You have some protection from the first two shots and the third would boost that protection. If you are married and have only one sex partner, you will only be exposed to what (if anything) he carries. If he has latent infection with herpes or human pappiloma virus, you probably would have it by now anyway.

Possibly yes: Even people who get all three shots of the vaccine within one year will still get hpv infections.  The thought is that the vaccine will you clear the infection faster than non-vaccinated people, thus reducing your risk of cervical cancer.

: Recent research has found that 2 doses of HPV vaccine is almost as effective as the recommended 3 doses. It wouldn't hurt to have the third dose now if at risk for new HPV (new or multiple sex partners by you or your partner), otherwise unnecessary. Neither HPV itself nor Gardasil causes premature menopause or genital area cysts. Discuss both issues with your gynecologist. Good luck.

May help,coverage?  : The target group for the Gardasil shot are those never exposed to hpv, as early as 9yo. The benefit may remain for anyone at any age who is sexually active, but insurance plans may only cover age groups listed as the target groups by the cdc or council on immunization practices. The vaccine is expensive, in excess of $150/dose before it gets into my office so some balk at paying out of pocket.

However, the original FDA approval was  for age 9-26, and many health insurers will not cover this outside this age range.It is an expensive vaccine, requiring more than 20 years to develop and assemble the data to get FDA approval.

No: The vaccine is given into the muscle & slowly enters the circulation where it sets up the immune response. It has no access to the shoulder capsule.
