Breakthrough bleedin: can happen with the BCP if it happens every month talk to your doctor about changing your BCP. Also if you miss a pill it can cause the spotting.

Doubtful, but....: Check a pregnancy test just to make sure not pregnant. The bleeding you had with your Plan B was likely your period, but it is very common for it to be very unusual in amount and duration. It is also not unusual for you to "miss" your "normal" period as the lining of the uterus has already shed itself. But if you have any concerns about pregnancy, an OTC test is accurate, quick and cheap

Common: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections &  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

Abnormal bleeding: You may have some changes in your menstrual cycles that are normal but you are still ovulating.  Some women will have some spotting for days after their cycle ends or if they don't ovulate. I would monitor your cycles  and see if there are other symptoms as well to see if this is becoming a normal pattern for you. If it becomes a pattern, i would recommend you talk to your doctor about this.

Brown spotting: usually indicates dried blood (from previous period(s). I would personally RELAX about this issue. If your 14 year old is otherwise HEALTHY PATIENCE is this best kind of advice I can give you....

Menstrual variation: old blood mixed with vaginal and cervical mucous, Your cycles can vary from month to month based on hormonal variations, stress,tension, anxiety, illness or aging. This is a normal variation. Please do not worry. Keep a menstrual diary to track your cycles.

Do nothing: Repeat UPT. If negative pregnancy and no pain, wait for bleeding to occur. If no bleed within 4 weeks of the last spotting episode, consult physician to discuss desire for pregnancy vs need for menstrual regulation with hormonal preparation.

Once your period: is late - you can go ahead and use a home pregnancy test (first morning void is best). Repeat in a week if this was negative &amp; you still don't have a period. Take care.
