Accepted Answer

No: No studies show that acupuncture can treat erectile dysfunction (ed). However, professionally done acupuncture is unlikely to harm a person. More importantly, ED can be a symptom of a serious illness such as diabetes, poor circulation, hormonal imbalances, medicine side effects, psychological disorders, etc..., and should be discussed with one's primary care physician.

Acupuncture treats:: Clinical trials have shown strong evidence that acupuncture can decrease nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy. Studies have shown that acupuncture treatments given as an addition to ivf improve rates of increasing pregnancy. Pilot studies showing improvement in chronic sinusitis. Acupuncture has also shown improvement in function and pain as additional/adjunctive therapy in knee osteoarthritis.

can glaucoma be treated with acupuncture?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Acupuncture can be used to treat glaucoma, though i would recommend only using it in addition to traditional medical therapies.   There is one study that showed a decrease in intraocular pressure after acupuncture, but overall there is limited evidence.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Acupuncture is actually very successful for back pain. The back pain should be muscular in origin and not a spinal disc problem. The needlepoints are at the side of the muscle pain in addition to leg points to help move the chi or the life force energy through the body.

Accepted Answer

Is not effective: Cataracts are opacities (cloudy spots or spots that block light from passing through) in the lens. The lens is originally clear, and changes its shape to focus on what a person looks at. It is in the eyeball, behind the colored iris and the pupil. Cataracts form after many years of sunlight (uv) exposure and from causes such as prolonged Prednisone use. Acupuncture does not help cataracts.

Steroids, zovrax: Shingles is from activation of dorsal horn varicella zoster. To treat
the patient needs rest and a course of an antiviral medication at the
highest dose permitted by weight of patient. An oral dose of steroids, such as a Medrol (methylprednisolone) dose pack for six days, will decrease inflammation.
It is good to recommend an immunization for people 50 or older who had chicken pox to avoid the disability from shingles.

can acupuncture be used to treat a person's scoliosis of the back?

Accepted Answer

To be blunt: no: Scoliosis is a three-dimensional deformity of the spine.  Severe scoliosis has only one known "cure" and that is surgery that involves fusing the necessary levels.  Be wary of non-surgeons telling you that they have the "cure, " it simply doesn't exist.  The first thing i would do is see a surgeon to find out if you even need treatment.  Most scoliosis is minor and does not need surgery.

can you use acupuncture to treat globus hystericus, does it have anything to do to correct your qi?

Accepted Answer

Ask acupuncturists: Globus hystericus is the sensation of a ball or lump in the throat or neck. It is associated to neurosis or "nerves", or anxiety. You should ask an acupuncturist if they use it for anxiety.  Make sure it is definitively globus hystericus and not something else like goiter, brachial or troglossal cyst, enlarge lymph nodes.

can obesity in girls be treated effectively through acupuncture?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Auricular acupuncture is very helpful for obesity. However, using it by itself won't help much. It will assist with appetite suppression - but the individual needs to be mindful to eat healthfully and to be physically active. High protein is recommended with auricular protocols for weight loss. My patients have done superbly with weight control through acupuncture.
