It is often tender.Treatment starts with heating for ten minutes to thin the oil and then trying to squeeze it out. If not successful in draining it, one goes to the eye md for surgical drainage. Rosacea is a risk factor.

Bacterial infection: This is a bacterial infeciton of the hair follicles of the lashes of the lid.  If it is pointing, simply plucking the lash within the pustule may relieve the sty and essentially "lance the boil".  Warm compresses help.  If this does not resolve or if worse or concern, see your pcp, eye care professional or other medical attention.  Antibiotic, orally and topically may be needed and good hygiene.

Compresses!: You can use warm compresses - a washcloth with warm water and hold it to the closed eye for 5-10 minutes 3 times a day. You can massage it with your fingers after the compress, but do not aggravate it.  You are trying to get it to drain on its own.  You may need it incised and drained if this does not work.    A sty is not and infection, so antibiotics do not help. It is a clogged oil gland of lid.
