im nursing my 20mo and want to conceive again. i get regular bleeding but dont think im ovulating. do i need to eliminate nursing completely to resume ovulation, or can a gradual decrease in nursing cause a gradual increase in fertility?

: At "40", when fertility rates are extremely low, if additional pregnancy is desired, consult a reproductive endocrinologist for guidance, as ovarian stimulation may be necessary to increase odds of pregnancy. Fertility in general always decreases after mid-30's.

light bleeding spotting (along w/ white mucus) during ovulation, is this normal? what is the cause of it? (i am not pregnant only nursing 1 yr. old)

Ovulating: That white mucus is a pretty good sign that despite breastfeeding, you are fertile and can get pregnant.  The breast feeding may be thinning your lining, making it unstable, so you are having ovulatory spotting.
If you don't want to get pregnant, make sure you use contraception.  Breast feeding, you may use specific birth control pills, any from of IUD and the Nexplanon. Take prenatal vitamins.

4 weeks postpartum and haven't had bleeding for about a week. it just started light bleeding again today! i'm nursing full time. what could this be?

Uterine involution: That's why it is called the post partum period for 6 to 8 weeks. The uterus is contracting with breastfeeding and causing a small amount of light bleeding.

6wks pp and not nursing; paragard was placed 6 weeks pp and started cramping and bleeding heavy immediately, should i be worried?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily: Paragard can cause bleeding, especially early on after insertion.  This will resolve or at the very least dimish in most patients.  If you have bleeding that is persistent, you should see your gynecologist for evaluation.

Yes.: if you know you are ovulating and having sex, then pregnancy is possible even without regular periods. So, it could be implantation or a period. Good luck!

Ob ultrasound:  any pregnancy that is within 6 months of a cesarean section has me a little worried about whether or not your scar has healed and whether or not the pregnancy is growing in the scar itself. You should establish prenatal care withan OB doctor early and get an ultrasound to make sure that this pregnancy is healthy. Take prenatal vitamins.

Any sutures?: After delivery did you need to have any sutures in your vagina to repair lacerations? If so, the length of time recommended to wait before having vaginal intercourse is 6 weeks. Depending upon how severe the bleeding is, you may need emergency evaluation to repair injuries. I have seen this happen postpartum where an artery was severed. Or you may have minor tears. Call your OB for advice, be well

Post-partum bleeding: Although you had no tears or sutures and 5 weeks is ample time to heal vaginal lacerations from giving birth, it would be prudent to see your OB-Gyn physician for an exam to rule out other causes of vaginal bleeding such as infection, polyps, fibroids, etc and bleeding disorders, and thyroid hormone levels.

Anovulation: You've had a cycle in which the ovary failed to release an egg.  This disrupts the usual hormone levels and causes the cycle to be abnormal.
