Food: Food is the usual cause of heartburn, which is a burning sensation or sour taste in the back of your throat. Severe cases can be due to ulcers and can even lead to cancer of the esophagus. Avoidance of foods that cause heartburn is the primary recommendation but daily medication may be necessary if symptoms continue or occur during sleep.

See a doctor...: Heartburn is very common.  If symptoms are persistent for months at a time and/or cannot be relieved with dietary or lifestyle changes then it will be necessary to see a gastroenterologist and endoscopy may be needed to further evaluate.  If you have not tried taking anything, then start with otc acid suppressive medications (e.g. Tums,  zantac, (ranitidine) prilosec).

Reflux : Reflux can occur at any age. Long term reflux can be a serious problem. An upper GI and possibly an egd . H pylori blood test should also be done. Go see your doctor for a full physical and bloodwork.

Slow titration : I will start 5 mg twice a day. Increased slowly follow by physician up to 40mg. More if approve by physician. It's s vasodilator and in theory could relax the lower esophageal sphincter causing gerd symptoms.

No: Coumadin (warfarin) is not known to cause heart burn but any medication that you take by mouth has potential to cause nausea.

Depends.: Levoxyl (thyroxine) does not cause irritation to the stomach.  But it depends on what you took it with and how soon after taking it, unless it was with a small sip of water. It is always best to wait 45 minutes to 1 hour before lying down after significant water intact, or eating.

Yes many drugs can…: Relax the esophageal sphincter & allow acidic stomach fluids to reflux. Ccb's, beta-agonists, alpha-adrenergic antagonists, nitrates, anticholinergics, theophylline, morphine, meperidine, diazepam, & barbiturates. Some meds may irritate esophagus directly, especially if not taken with enuf water: nsaids, tetracyclines, beta blockers. Take all meds with full glass of water; don't lie down for 15-30.
