Seek immediate attention from your pcp or urgent care source to be placed on antibiotics today! follow up in 7-10 days is a must to avoid more serious complications. There is always a potential need for an incision ; drainage procedure, which requires a face to face encounter!

If your Orthodontist doesn't want to see ou, see a different Orthodontist for a second opinion. See a specialist in Oral Medicine or Oral Pathology, or seek evaluation in the Oral Medicine Department of a University Dental School. Be persistent.

Yes: Could also be gum disease, allergic reaction, para functional habit, joint dysfunction, or one of so many other problems.  Have your dentist check this for you.  If wisdom tooth problem, dentist may want to refer you to oral surgeon.
