i swallowed a open staple by accident what should i do?

Call your doctor: It is unlikely that his will cause any harm.  That said since it is a sharp item there is a slight chance that it might lodge in the soft lining of your GI tract.  Let your doctor know,  an x-ray can detect  the location of the staple and can make sure it has passed.  If you have any throat or abdominal pain be seen asap.

Take him to the: emergency room immediately. They will be able to do an Xray and then you will know for sure. Open staples can cause bleeding, obstruction (if there were enough) and perforation of the intestine. You may get there and find out that everything is fine, but you shouldn't wait for symptoms to appear....

: Feeding the kid stewed okra or similar vegetable debris will form a congeal around the object &amp; help it travel through and out the digestive tract in a few days. Even without this these generally pass without problems. If you feel the kid is developing colicky belly pain their doc can assess them.

Go to Emergency Rm: There's no way to know what that staple is going to do, but it needs to be followed. You should go to the er or your doctor for an evaluation. They will likely want to follow it with an x-ray.  If you did this, keep the staples out of your mouth. If it's somebody else, like a child, there's no telling how many times they've done it before so there may be quite a few more staples in there already.

Don't do it!: A literature search resulted in only a couple of small case reports. Obviously not enough evidence of efficacy or safety for spinal application.

Go see ENT: You need to go get your throat looked at by an ear nose and throat professional. Although there is a possibility that the pain will pass out in the stool, the fact that your throat is uncomfortable should be evaluated. Good luck.

what causes constant swallowing problems? it started about 8 months ago. amongst many other symptoms going on.

You need medical eva: A complete medical evaluation is necessary to help you with your swallowing problem. You can either start with your primary care doctor or go to a consultant, gastroenterologist who can investigate and find the cause.
It could be acid reflux which is quite easy to diagnose and treat. At times we need to do endoscopy to check the inside of the food pipe(esophagus) to rule out anything more serious.

Probably will pass: Even odd shaped things swallowed will usually pass. The most important thing is that it did not get stuck in the bak of the throat, but he would be coufging or gagging. Plastic won't usually show up on xray but it is important to make sure it passes in his stool. Rarely things can get stuck in the bowel wall, but unlikely. I have seen open safety pins pass, so look in the stool.

Sudden colic: It is hard to define the delay before symptoms as ingestion is often unrecognised. Abdominal cramps/pain/sudden change in behavior may be your only signs.The button battery generates an electrical current that can destroy tissue and the battery eats through the wall of the stomach or intestines.This allows digestive debris including germs to leak into the inside of the body.Disaster is predicatble.
