Probably: You will have to disclose all medical and psychiatric problems with any employer. An admission for stress is not by itself a reason not to get hired. Check with your doctor and see if they can give you a letter saying you have been treated and what for. Good luck.

You can be forced into a psychiatric hospital based on certain behavior (harm to self or others).  But I don't want it to go that route for you so please get help soon.

Unlikely: The military has rather strict physical and mental entrance standards.  Unless your condition is completely resolved and was minor to begin with, the military is unlikely to let you join.

Sometimes: If someone is so psychiatrically ill that he or she is a danger to self (highly suicidal) or others (threatening or intending harm) or gravely disabled (unable to provide for basic needs), then there are laws that allow doctors and police to put someone into a psychiatric hospital for up to 72 hours for evaluatoin.  That can be extended with court review, if needed.  Pt's can appeal.

No way to know: Without knowing what your concerns are, it is impossible to answer your qauestion.  If one "checks in" voluntarily, usually one can "check out" voluntarily too.  The exception would be if you describe serious suicidal intent or a plan to harm other people, which would compel you caregivers to seek enforced hospitalization.

Dangerousness: Each state in the us has laws specifying when someone can be "involuntarily committed."  in the 1960s and 70s the states all adopted variations on a dangerousness standard, ie., suicidal or homicidal, plus in some states "grave disability", i.E, . Inability to provide food/clothing/shelter for oneself.  Depending on the state, there is usually a review by a judge after a few days.
