Usually normal: The virchow robin space is a perivascular space in the brain that surrounds the perforating arteries. It is believed to act as a buffer and reservoir of the extracelluar space for the neurons. These are normal findings that are best seen on the MRI scans of the brain.  However, more recent studies suggest that these become prominent in neurodegenerative diseases where there is loss of neurons.

: Hard to be precise regarding clinical correlation as some interpretations raise concerns of vascular atherosclerotic risks.  I think the jury remains "out" in terms of any true significance.  Get the radiologist's and your doctors opinions, as there may be clinical correlative issues.

hi there, i hope youre well. i have some discomfort on my left gland and maybe 2-3cm below it. its only painful on the left side and i felt it paining while exercising earlier. is this common or should i visit a gp? thanks, robin

Glands: Hi, not quite sure what you are referring to. We have many glands in our bodies. For instance, there are lymph nodes  under our jaw, on the throat, under arms, at the groin etc.  There are glands like parotids or thyroid etc. If we had a better idea of what was going on we might be able to provider more insight. No: Hi, Robin.  Since retinal folds are associated with significant ocular, orbital and systemic pathology, I would tell the boxer to have a complete physical exam with blood work for inflammatory disease and orbital/cerebral imaging. If he goes on to fight without further workup and bleeds into his head from trauma to a brain tumor, there are going to be many unhappy players  Best wishes! Gary

can it transmit rabies? can you get rabies from bird saliva or contaminated beak or claw?
