Silly myth: Drinking vinegar won't shut down your kidneys, whatever some "pop" websites are claiming. If you want to try it to dissolve a kidney stone, go ahead but i'm betting you'll be disappointed.

Vinegar and CKD: no adverse effect on kidneys on use of Vinegar in moderation. There are some reported benefit of kidney function on use of vinegar regularly but none of those substantiated with strict scientific research study.

Accepted Answer

No: The pain will not become worse, it is probably coincidental. The apple cider vinegar helps dissolve the kidney stones, but should not be used instead of good medical care for you doctor to make an appropriate diagnosis and treatment.

Urban myth...: ...or you could call it an old wives' tale. Drinking cider or any other vinegar, or any acid, won't do anything to "clean the kidneys" or otherwise help your health. If you like the taste, feel free (in moderation). Otherwise find a drink that tastes better!

Questionable benefit: I am not certain that the vinegar will be of any benefit. Your tolerance  for the vinegar will depend on you renal clearance.

Bubbles: Foamy or bubbly urine is usually a sign of some protein in urine or a change in the PH of your urine (the vinegar and lemon juice).  If your pain has decreased, it is likely you have passed the stone.  6 mm is at upper end of size that you may pass on own, have your urologist recheck an X-ray to see if stone still present.  If it persists, there are ways for MDs to remove the stone.

Scientific Rx: Please forgive my frankness. You're wasting your hope and your money with the vinegar. There is nothing "spiritual" about believing obvious sucker pitches. Kidney stones are a serious threat to your health and perhaps your life, as well as being painful. This is the 21st century and you need an evaluation for possibly lithotripsy / shock waves or other interventions by a competent specialist.

May need it out: If the stone is not passing on its own, you may need to have it removed by a urologist. There are many techniques available depending on the situation. Hope this helps!

experiencing back pain 3+ weeks. went to er. they found kidney stones in ct scan. i treated it myself with lemon juice apple vinegar heating  pad. they started to drop to buttock and then disappear. one is still in buttock. won't move. what to do?

See your doctor: who may refer you to a urologist for further management, you don't want to self treat a kidney / ureter stone without medical supervision, if it is an insurance problem, go back to ER or seek help in free clinics / University/, teaching hospital, wish you wellness
