Med side effects: Advicor (lovastatin and niacin) contains a statin as well as niacin.  Side-effects include muscular aches (statins),  inflammation (both), lft elevation (both), and flushing (niacin).  Dangerous toxicity is rare, but muscle aches can occur in 10% patients.

Yes: You can choose an area of veterinary medicine where you do not take care of rabbits or other rodents.  Or you can undergo allergy shots to help reduce your allergy problems.  See a board certified allergist for further advice.

: Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid are 2 antibiotics, and they are commonly combined.  And yes, they are the same 2 used in human and veterinary medicine.  However, they are generally given in different milligram strengths, and the milligrams needed per pound of body weight may differ for animals than for humans.

No: Interesting thought though. Unfortunately this infection is novel which means it is different to all of the other infections that someone may have had.

No: Being vegetarian does not have a bearing on getting flu.  You should take precautions, e.G, gown, glove and mask while handling birds or material that has been in contact with birds.

i am a veterinarian with a distal fibula fracture.  i have no desire or ability to be off my feet . is there a reasonable way to stabilize this?

A cam walker: Boot, you can tabe or strap the area first for more stabilization. Keep in mind you did not expressd the full extent or type of injury. I.e displaced, non displaced etc....

i got bit 10 minutes ago by my chihuahua. he already had his anti rabies shot. should i still go to the hospital?

Risk of infection: Bites from a domesticated dog can, but not usually, get infected.  Mild bites only need to be cleaned out thoroughly and observed closely for signs of an infection (fever, pus, increasing redness, etc.)  more severe bites should be evaluated by your doctor for possible other soft tissue injuries (tendons, ligaments, muscles, etc.)  fyi...Cat bites should always be evaluated by your doctor.

bit by small dog on outer thigh. chihuahua on leash got away from my neighbor. didnt think to ask about vaccines. wealthy neighbors dogs look well cared. dont think it broke the skin, it looks like a scratch, should i worry? southern usa?

: Keep it clean. Insure your tetanus is current, with 10 years. If it did penetrate the skin, an antibiotic is often indicated. For sure if you experienced redness or swelling or your body becomes otherwise sick, such as fever.

my chihuahua has some dead skin in his ears and tends to scratch his ear. is that a fungus i might catch?

Mange more likely: The problem sounds more like mange, which is caused by mites. These mites can bite you and cause itchy bumps, but don't live on humans like the scabies mite does.
