Bartholins Cyst: The most common cause for a painless swelling in the lower aspect of the outer labia on one side is a Bartholin's Cyst. The Bartholin's glands secrete fluid thru the Bartholin's Duct that helps lubricate the vagina during intercourse. Get an exam: It's so hard to tell without visually examining the swelling. If it looks significant, i think it's best to make an appointment.

Possible abscess: A bruise may have caused this, but it could also be due to a blocked oil gland.  I recommend you have a medical exam as this may worsen and become infected.

Could be..: On glucophage (metformin) and bc for pcos? Had sex? Could be irritation, and/or possible std (sexually transmitted disease). Get examined.

Infection: Often this is a sign of a typical yeast infection. See a doctor for this diagnosis, or try otc anti-fungal and see if cream and suppository make feel better. Other ideas are bacterial infections. Lastly vulvodynia is a pain syndrome that some women have. Speak with your doctor re this if infections have been ruled out. Good luck!
