i have a cath for urinary retention for 2 weeks and have severe pain like a 9 at base of penis in urethra. what can i or should i do to resolve pain?

?what is the cause?: At your age, there is no good reason to have urinary retention? So you should ask your doctors why they placed a catheter in your bladder?. Do you have some sort of neurological ailment? For now, ask for pain medicine to relieve your pain. The catheter(Called Foley catheter) should be removed unless your bladder has paralysis of some cause... which must be investigated and treated.

i have concretion (sand like particles) not kidney stone, can it cause pain in the back, side, hip, urinary blader and penis area? how long it heals up

Yes: "stones" in the kidney are not usually the large "staghorn" type people think of. You usually have to use a strainer or tea bag to filter your urine in order to capture the "stones." therefore, you certainly may have kidney stones. Until they pass, the pain may be there. There are other things which may cause pain in addition to stones, so make sure that is what you have.

Visit doctor: It is very important that you see your doctor for an examination. You will need a culture of your urine and of any penile secretion. You also need to be examined for any lesions on your penis

Painful Penis: Like most doctors a little bit of information stimulates more questions than answers.

I would want to know when your UTI was; what medication was used: if you have a history of herpes exposure; what sexual activity you have had recently; and, what happens with good hydration and cranberry juice.

This very well may be a temporary post treatment irritation and should clear up soon.

UTI symptoms: UTI is not a likely cause. Also, UTIs are rare in healthy men your age. If you have symptoms of urethral infection (discharge, painful urination, etc), an STI is much more likely than UTI. But neither STI nor UTI causes penile numbness as the only symptom.

Infection possible: The most common causes of burning in the penis in a man are sexually-transmitted infections which clearly you're not at risk for, urinary tract infection, irritation from soaps and lubricants and perhaps dehydration. Drinking plenty of fluids, avoid scented products and drink some cranberry juice. You may need urine test if it persists.

i am 18 years old and am having urinary issues. i am having a tube shoved down my penis and do not want to get anesthesia. is it really painful?!

Not that bad: It's over in seconds, and not as bad as you might think.  Something along the lines of having blood drawn from your arm, or a shot of dental anesthesia.

: Penile itching from an indwelling catheter may reflect early bladder infection or size of catheter, to name a few considerations.  The person who inserted the catheter should be seen ASAP.

: If you have diabetes mellitus, chance that you may have catheter related fungal infection.
If you just have itching and yo u can see some white exudate around the meatus and the tip of your penis, you may try to apply Lotrimin cream (an antifungal cream OTC), twice a day. However, if the urine in the bag is very cloudy you need to see your PMD or urologist for checking the urine for treatment.
