Weekly fluconazole?: These symptoms sound like a yeast infection, which is supported by the temporary improvement you have had with miconozole cream (Monistat®). Persistent or recurrent yeast infections often can be prevented by a single dose of fluconazole (Diflucan®) by mouth once a week. Contact your doctor about giving it a try. S/he may want to see you first to confirm the diagnosis.

Yeast or...: Some women have the misfortune of getting a yeast infection around each period.  The only way to know for sure that is the cause is to see your Gyn while you are having symptoms several months in a row.  You may need a longer duration treatment for yeast.   There are other causes, so its best to have it checked.  Best wishes!

Common problem: Rough sex? Ask him to be gentle and limit penetration to 5 minutes. Prolonged sex is hard on delicate tissues, even if it feels good at the time.

Local reaction: Sometimes you can have a local skin reaction to lubricants/spermicides/etc. that are in condoms or vaginal foams. The process may require a change in whatever you use. If it is just friction you may need to abstain for a while &amp; add a good lubricant to the process in the future.
