OK unless dehydrated: These crystals are a combination of elements that are normally in the urine, calcium and urate, causing a red/orange stain/crystal formation in the diaper. These are normal and should resolve on their own. If there is any ongoing feeding problem with your baby or if she is not making several wet diapers a day, see her pediatrician.

Kidney Stone Risk: This occurs when level of uric acid is elevated in blood causing increased excretion in the urine. The biggest risk is of kidney stones. Treatment includes reduction of uric acid level with drugs such as allopurinol, increased water intake, and low purine diet.

VERY NORMAL!: We se uric acid crystals from the day kids are born. This is normal in infant urine and absolutely no reason to be concerned. In peds we call this "brick dust" in the diapers, but often it's just a pink hue to the urine, depending on what brand of diapers and how absorbent they are. No need to worry.

Talk to pediatrician: Urate crystals are normal &amp; sometimes confused with blood. Hemaglobin level is low &amp; likely combination of natural dip in Hb during first few months of life &amp; diet. She may require iron supplement to her formula, or iron drops if breast fed. Bottom line is that it's best to discuss this with her pediatrician. You are always free to change Drs if UR unhappy with present one!

Don't think: pain is related to urate crystals.   Right lower abdominal pain could be infection, kidney stone, appendicitis, ovarian cyst, ectopic pregnancy, ileitis, shingles, etc.  Some of these conditions could be serious, so you should consult with your doctor.

UTI: Sounds like a urinary tract infection (UTI). There are other causes for having white cells however bacterial infection is most common. If you are having urinary symptoms, then it will probably require antibiotics. Urate crystals are probably secondary to this however if it doesn't clear then consider gout.

Contaminated: The color is fine; the urates precipitating may have caused the cloudiness and really mean nothing. The epithelial cells indicate likely contamination and this makes the reds less worrisome. Is your physician concerned? The most i'd do is repeat unless there's an actual reason to worry.

Often normal: Uric acid crystals in an acid urine usually mean nothing. They precipitate as the urine cools. If there's no other evidence of a kidney stone, forget about them. There's no connection with common bile duct stones.

A healthy baby will: Drink water if thirsty. The beauty of breast-ferding is that it is sufficient for hydration in countries whose water supply may be contaminated. His pediatrician will look for medical causes of proteinuria. Urate crystals can be seen in the diapers of healthy breast-fed babies. If your baby is dehydrated from sweating ; is not gaining weight appropriately,  his doctor may test for cystic fibrosis.
